A visit to the ‘Flaming June: The Making of an Icon’ exhibition at Leighton House 16 March 2017

Daniel Robbins, the curator of Leighton House, will give us a guided tour of the landmark exhibition returning Leighton’s most famous and celebrated work to the artist’s house from the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico.  Frederic. Lord Leighton was one of the pre-eminent artists of his day and friend of Whistler. As President of the Royal Academy from 1878 to 1896, Leighton achieved great fame and influence as a figurehead for art in late Victorian society. Daniel will tell us about the painter, the Academy paintings of 1895 and their afterlife. Whistler wrote to Leighton in 1886 saying  Je vous savais charmant – mais je ne vous savais pas plus charmant que moi!.
